At this scale, cutter grinding involves relatively small workpieces, so a giant machine is not called for. Perhaps even a small hobby CNC machine would be able to do this kind of work with a high degree of success. In the past, I would go up to a green wheel, grind an approximately 1/8" wide flat on the shank side and tighten the set screw against that. That worked fine for the 7500rpm machine. Now that my slow machine is 10,000 rpm and the speedio is 16,000, I am wondering if this is a problem balancewise?
The basic TINKER TC Grinding Jig is terrific for sharpening the end of end mills and slot drills. This operation is easy to learn to do well, and can be done very quickly. I have two end mill holders and a 1/4" 3/4" by 1/16" set of collets. I use the end mill holders for most of my milling and buy HS end mills with 3/8" and 1/2" shanks whenever possible.
